The military allocates and spends millions of dollars for the purpose of advancing military technology. Most of these technologies have found their way in the hands of civilians as business minded individuals have found these technologies applicable to their business.
These days, you can easily find computers being manufactured in various shapes and sizes. Most of them are used for gathering data for information management as well as for personal use. The ancestor of modern day computers was intended for military purposes in 1944. Designed by a Harvard University professor, the Mark I was a room-sized computer built for computing missile trajectories. Eventually, computers found its way to the world of civilians. By the 1970s, desktop computers have been used by the general public.
Cellular communications technology, which is very popular among individuals nowadays, was also initially designed for military purposes. Now, cellular phones have become a necessity and it is now possible to contact another person anytime anywhere.
In addition, the military also pioneered in the field of air transport. When the Wright brothers proved that it was possible to control flight, the military went on to build aircrafts for the purpose of war. This paved the way for the construction of airplanes for transporting civilians. Most commercial aircrafts are now making use of fly by wire technology originally intended for fighter planes.
Undoubtedly one of the most widely used and popular military technology that has found its way in the civilian world is the World Wide Web. At first, the Internet was intended to be used for interconnecting the various branches of the military. Now, the business sector has greatly benefited from this technology making it easier for them to globalize their business.
The military has a huge budget allocated for research and development spending. They are among the top sectors in the field of technological research and development initially designed for military purposes. The civilian and business sector has made great strides because of technologies developed by the military.
The field of communications, transportation, information management, and production line automation are just some of the sectors that have greatly benefited from military technology. These advancements have changed the way companies conduct their business. With one click of a button, companies have successfully merged their businesses and became interconnected with one another.
The contributions of the military in business have enabled companies to move forward and take their business to the next level. If not for the efforts put up by the military, the idea of globalization is still far fetched.
